@ Julie - I agree. The problem was the old, rotting wooden pier got blown halfway to Europe with the last big hurricane. So now it's concrete and steel.
@ Frank - I think the powers-that-be got tired of looking all over the Atlantic for the remnants of their pier after various hurricanes blew through...seems to me I read that this pier is supposed to withstand a category 5. Not sure I'd want to test that, though!
Very nice blog. I have a Florida Fishing Pier blog with photos of Venice, Skyway, and Flagler Beach Piers. All piers are a great place to be and go fishing. All the best.

Wow, it looks like a nice big one too. That is great.
Looks like quite some people enjoy having this new pier, eh?
God bless you!

Oh for the romance of rotting wood, Jacob.
When I finally get to Cedar Key I'm going to head here first, I think.
Hmmmm that water looks so enticing. But, no thanks.
Very neat shot. the water looks like it must be full of fish. I would like to be on that pier fishing. MB
@ Small City - C'mon down!

I know it's been a while since we visited Cedar Key but the amount of traffic and number of visitors have really shot up. And cops in a cart! Fancy!!
The new pier looks like it'll withstand a pretty serious storm.

Is this a public pier? I'm headed to Cedar Key for the first time next weekend...
