A Stilted House

A house in Cedar Key must be built high enough to withstand the surge of water from hurricane force winds. That generally means it must be 12 feet above ground as that's the high-level watermark in Cedar Key. A stilted house like this allows the water to run under the house and hopefully leave the structure with little or no damage.

And it looks like it is working as the house is still there.

I would like to be able to vacation in a house like that.

I see not every structure shares that requirement, though whatever's in the background might not be a house.

So I suppose that technically there is no basement in this house. LOL! It certainly looks high enough, hopefully the height will protect it from any flooding.

I like these kinds of houses. They remind me of summer!

PS: I have a bit of blogger burnout (hard to juggle my job and being an amateur photographer). I am posting somewhat regularly on my travel blog and facebook. :)

We see several houses like that, but not that high, built in the older towns along the Skagit River. Interesting.

Good idea. It would need some of the houses here.

Wow. That house is built high above the ground.
